I had a fun adventure hunting fossils at the Quality Quarry. Only 5 people are allowed at a time with approved guides. Chuck Ferrara from the Fossil Club was our guide. Since there was only one spot left when we signed up I went and Dennis went to Manosota Beach where we love to hunt shark teeth and fossils also.
Below is the article on our excursion in the monthly news letter. We are making special friends in Florida with our hobby.. believe it or not there are others out there like us!!!
6 Southwest Florida Fossil Club Newsletter, Vol. 28 No. 2 February, 2011
QUALITY—FINDS
By: Chuck Ferrara
We have had some rain lately which has made it easier to find some good fossils. New members Henry and Fern Tropea were ready and full of enthusiasm. They found lots of shells and sandollars and some bone pieces. Kay Harper found a nice crab claw. Carol didn't want to leave. She had buckets of shells, barnacles and she found a nice vertebra. Jack Pence found the nicest Mammoth toe bone I've seen. It was in real great shape - showpiece. I found a juvenile sloth tooth - pretty neat. It was a good assortment. We had to stick with it for 4 or 5 hours but you find nice things if you’re persistent.
There are photos in the newsletter which I will try to get on here.
